Academic Hospitalist Physician

Location: Wichita, Kansas

1, Supervision of medical students, residents, nurses, physician assistants and nurse practitioners
2. Consultation will be provided as needed with nursing staff, ancillary staff and medical staff to assure tim ely safe and appropriate implementation of all care plans.
3. Answer telephone calls from patients, other physicians, specialists regarding patient care.
4. Hospitalist shall participate in activities of the medical center that are designed to meet the requirements of the Joint Commission (JC) pertaining to Quality Improvement (QI) for which medical staff are responsible; i.e., maintain medical records and participate in peer review. The Hospitalist) Physician will also comply with other duties that are assigned. The contractor shall be responsible for assuring that medical records are completed in a timely fashion satisfying VHA and Medical Center Policies and JCAHO requirements within times documented on the chart.
5. Evaluate and report an incident or adverse event in accordance with current VA or Medical Center policy and procedures.
6. MEDICAL OFFICER OF THE DAY DUTIES
The Hospitalist will also serve as the Medical Officer on Duty during the Tour of Duty. The Hospitalist serves as Medical Officer of the Day and is responsible for the care of patients in Acute inpatient Care at the RJDVA. Must be proficient in emergency situations, experienced in operation, patient admissions and administration of acute medical care unit and ICU. Duties include, but not limited to: patient assessment and treatment/management of urgent/emergent conditions, acute conditions, exacerbation of chronic conditions, admission and/or transfer of urgent/emergent veterans, providing medical clearance for veterans requiring admission to in-patient Mental Health,. The Medical Officer of the Day reports during non-administrative duty hours, i.e. prior to 7 a.m., and after 4:30 p.m. Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Practice .required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) required The Department of Veterans Affairs offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package. Candidates are eligible for performance pay if they meet the predetermined performance measures. Medical malpractice insurance is not required due to coverage under the Federal Tort Claims Act. In addition, vacation is not charged for attending CME activities.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Board Certification as Hospitalist or Internist, Faculty Appointment
